Texas Counties Post Names, Mugshots of Drunk Drivers on Twitter

If you get arrested for drunk driving in Montgomery County, Texas, (which includes parts of the city of Houston) everyone on Twitter will know about it.

We're not kidding.

The county's district attorney has decided to post the names of everyone charged with driving while intoxicated between Christmas and New Year's Eve (and other holidays like the Fourth of July and Memorial Day) on their Twitter page.

The information is already public information and County Vehicular Crimes Prosecutor Warren Diepraam told Computerworld.com he came up with the idea as a way of discouraging residents from driving while drunk.

"It's not a magic bullet that's going to end DWIs, but its something to make people think twice before they get behind the wheel of a car and drive while they're intoxicated," he said.

Denton, Texas police have gone one step further -- they're posting the names and mugshots of everyone arrested in that town on their Twitter page.

Don't mess with Texas!
