Lottery Winner Celebrating Win is Killed

A woman who had been out celebrating her winnings in the Ohio Lottery was killed when she was struck by a car.

The Ohio Highway Patrol says Deborah McDonald had just left a bar in north-central Ohio and was walking along a road Tuesday night when she was struck by a car and killed instantly.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio Lottery says Deborah won $8,000 in the lottery's TV game show Cash Explosion Double Play. (The show was taped Jan. 12 and is set to air tomorrow.)

Deborah has recently fallen on hard times and thought the money would give them a boost, according to the Sandusky Register newspaper.

Earlier that day, Deborah treated her husband and friends Sherry Blissit and Darrell Ring to a meal at Red Lobster. She bought wedding rings -- a luxury she and her husband couldn't afford before their unexpected good fortune. She also bought a friendship ring for Sherry, the paper said.

The couple told friends they planned to use the rest of their winnings to make a down payment on a charter boat so they could spend their days on the water together. Deborah dreamed the boat might be their ticket to better days, allowing them to start a fishing business.

She had six children.
