Man Robs Bank of $1 For 'Medical Reasons'

Last Thursday, 59-year-old James Verone walked inti a Gastonia, North Carolina and handed the teller a note that read "this is a bank robbery. please only give me one dollar." Then he sat and waited for police. James, who says he has a growth of some sort on his chest, two ruptured disks and a problem with his left foot, has no medical insurance and no money so he thought jail was the best place he could go for medical care and a roof over his head. He's hoping the judge sentences him to three years in the clink -- enough time, he says, for him to save up and buy that condominium he's been eyeing. He may not have thought out his plan carefully, however. Because he only demanded one dollar and didn't have a weapon, police charged him not with bank robbery, but larceny, so he might not get as much time in the slammer as he was hoping for. This is hardly the first case of a someone going to the extreme for medical insurance. Last year a lady shot herself in the hopes she will get get some of that Obamacare.
